Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Braden Dennis ("we," "us"), the maker of the FitRivals mobile app ("the App"), collects, uses, and protects your information. FitRivals is a social fitness competition app: you compete with friends on step and activity goals, and your activity in a competition is visible to the other people in that competition.

By using FitRivals, you agree to this policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.

What we collect

Account information. Your email address, a display name, a unique username, date of birth (for age verification), and a securely hashed password — we never see or store your password in plain text.

Health & activity data. With your explicit permission, we read step count, walking/running distance, and active energy from Apple Health (including data measured by your Apple Watch or iPhone). We use this data only to calculate standings in competitions and challenges you choose to join, and to show your own activity history back to you.

Social & competition data. Competitions you create or join, friend connections, FitCoins balances and transaction history, and challenge results.

Diagnostic data. If the App crashes or errors, we collect a crash report (via Sentry) with device model, OS version, and the technical details of what failed. A small, randomly sampled portion of sessions may include an anonymized screen recording around an error to help us reproduce bugs; this never captures anything you type into password fields.

Feedback you send us. Bug reports or feature requests submitted in the App, plus your app version and device/OS.

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, or financial payment information.

How your activity is shared with other users

FitRivals is social by design. When you join a competition, the other participants can see your relevant activity for that competition (for example, your step count and your rank). Friends can see your profile. You control who sees your display name (everyone, friends, or no one), and the global leaderboard is opt-in and shows only your username.

How we use HealthKit data

Health and activity data obtained through Apple HealthKit:

• is used only to power the competitions, challenges, and activity views you opt into;
• is never used for advertising or marketing;
• is never sold to anyone;
• is never shared with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Third-party services

We use a small number of service providers strictly to run the App:

• Google Firebase — authentication, database, and backend functions
• Sentry — crash reporting and diagnostics
• Postmark — sending account emails (verification, password reset)

We do not use advertising networks or data brokers.

How we store and secure your data

Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure, protected by encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), authentication, and server-side access rules that restrict each user's data to that user and, for competition activity, to the competitors who share it.

Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data and competition history are removed from our active systems, except records we must retain for legal or fraud-prevention reasons. Diagnostic data is retained for a limited period by our providers.

Your rights and choices

• Access & export: export a copy of your data from Profile → Settings in the App.
• Deletion: permanently delete your account and data from Profile → Settings. This is immediate and irreversible.
• Health permissions: review or revoke FitRivals' Health access anytime in the iOS Health app or Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
• Visibility: control display-name visibility and leaderboard participation in Settings → Privacy.

Children's privacy

FitRivals is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the App before they take effect and update the date above.
